iPhone 5 release date causes iPhone owners to sell used phones - Examiner.com

In advance if the iPhone 5 release date, iPhone owners across the U.S. have rushed to sell their old iPhones, according to a September 9 report from USA Today. Can you still get a good deal for your iPhone 4 or 4S ahead of this week's unveiling from Apple?

Part of the reason for the increase in people looking to sell is the fact that the iPhone 5 is supposed to be completely redesigned with a larger screen and thinner profile. Many people didn't trade in their iPhone 4 for the iPhone 4S because there wasn't a big enough difference between the phones. This year's update will change that, and that makes a lot of people eager to pick up the next generation iPhone.

NextWorth, a website that provides quotes for used phones, saw a 610 percent increase in request for quotes for iPhones from August 17 to September 6. Jeff Trachsel from NextWorth said of the consumer requests,

"This year, it happened a lot sooner than in years past, and happened in greater scale."

Because of the new body style, the iPhone 5 release is the biggest release event ever for Apple, and that's saying something because people have always flocked to by the latest Apple gadget. Of course, some are worried that this Apple unveil will be disappointingly conservative.

For a top of the line iPhone 4S in great condition, you can get about $315 right now, which would certainly help with the cost of upgrading to the new phone. Of course, you can also take to eBay or Craiglist to sell your phones as well, and you may end up with a better price. If neither of those options set well with you, Best Buy, Target, and even Apple will buy back your phone too, but you'll likely get the lowest price with these major retailers.

Are you trying to sell an older version of an iPhone before the iPhone 5? If so, how much money do you hope to get? Where do you plan to sell?
