A new iPhone is launched just about every single year and as the Apple fans of the world wait for that elusive iPhone 5, Sprint decides they are going to make the wait even more exciting. The company announced this week that they plan to offer an unlimited plan for the next iPhone, which should launch by fall of this year. Unlimited data plans have pretty much been eliminated save a couple like Sprint and a few pre-paid carriers in the United States. Data intensive apps and smartphone or tablet usage is at an all time high so most carriers are unable to âfeed the needâ for all that data.
Sprint, on the other hand, is one carrier that has made it possible, quite affordably also, to have a top of the line smartphone and get an unlimited plan for it. Sprint said the unlimited data plans are what customers like to see and new customers are flocking to Sprint to check it out. Sprintâs CEO commented that when the next iPhone launches, presumably the iPhone 5, it will be covered under the unlimited data plan even if the phone is a 4G device. That statement speaks volumes to smartphone data users and you can bet that every single iPhone user on the planet caught wind and is now thinking about their contract end date.
CEO, Dan Hesse, told CNET, âIâm not anticipating the unlimited plan would change by that pointâ, saying the unlimited plan is âour distinctive differentiatorâ, and then talking about how the plan is âclearly attracting customers from our competitorsâ. Sprint sold a total of 1.5 million iPhones last quarter, which comes out to almost 44 percent of all new customers during that time. The numbers are small compared to AT&T and Verizon which sold over 4 million and 3 million iPhone, respectively. Some experts say that 1.5 million iPhones is a good number when you think that Sprint is actually the third largest carrier and only about half the size of AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Sprintâs iPhone sales were only about 4 percent of Appleâs global sales last quarter. Since Sprint has been working diligently on getting their LTE network on the wire, customers have been noticing that unlimited data plan.
