Men's Health Premieres iPhone Newsstand App for Monthly Magazine - MarketWatch (press release)

NEW YORK, Jun 01, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Rodale Inc.'s Men's Health magazine today announced the launch of the publication's iPhone application. The app, which was developed using Adobe(R) Digital Publishing Suite, is the first iPhone application to launch on the Adobe platform in the United States.

Starting with the September issue of the magazine, available in August, special content will be developed specifically for the iPhone in order to create an enhanced viewing experience unavailable on other devices. To capitalize on Adobe's new platform capabilities, including support for the iPhone and to meet reader demand quickly, the brand will publish the June and July/August issues in PDF format for the iPhone. While Men's Health currently has several branded apps for the iPhone, this new app is the first that allows the magazine to expand its digital publication delivery across iPhone and iPod Touch devices, which boast over 220 million users globally. Existing Men's Health iPad subscribers will have access to the publication, with no additional charge, on their iPhones.

"This brand prides itself on being first to market, so developing an iPhone version of Men's Health quickly is a natural next step for us," said David Zinczenko, Editor-in-Chief of Men's Health and GM for Rodale's Healthy Living Group and Rodale Books. "Our readers are hungry for the next iteration of content and we are positioned to publish a seamless and engaging multi-platform experience."

"Extending our digital edition to an additional device is another chance for us to deliver the content our readers crave in a new and innovative way," said Sean Bumgarner, Interactive Design Director for Rodale. "Offering iPad subscribers a chance to view Men's Health on their iPhone gives readers a new outlet to consume our content on-the-go or at the gym."

"Adobe's new Content Viewer for iPhone as part of Digital Publishing Suite will significantly impact the market by empowering publishers to quickly scale reach of their content given the ubiquity of the iPhone," said Nick Bogaty, director of business development, Digital Publishing at Adobe. "We support Rodale leading this charge with Men's Health as the first Adobe customer to publish to the iPhone, and anticipate many publishers to follow suit."

Men's Health's "Skin Care Center" was the 2012 recipient of the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) award for digital media, known as the Digital Ellie, in the personal service category honoring service journalism on digital platforms. The Men's Health title Eat This, Not That! also won a Digital Ellie in ASME's inaugural year of the awards, 2010. The brand boasts over 40 apps across the iPhone and iPad.
