Samsung Galaxy S III Ad Mocks iPhone 5 - PC Magazine

Samsung Galaxy S III iPhone Parody Ad

The iPhone 5 hasn't even hit store shelves yet and already the next-generation smartphone battle has begun.

On Sunday, Samsung ran a newspaper ad comparing its Galaxy S III to the new iPhone 5 , and the claws came out.

The tagline "It doesn't take a genius" hovered over a prominent photo of the Samsung smartphone, next to a lesser image of an unlit iPhone. Below, a list of each phone's features heavily weighs in the favor of the Galaxy S III , which outdoes the Apple phone in 14 conveniently selected categories, according to Samsung.

Some features match upâ€"both phones have 4G LTE, full HD 1080 video recording, a voice-activated personal assistant (the iPhone has Siri, while Samsung has implemented S Voice), and provide 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage options.

Samsung gets in its first dig with the listing of its standard micro USB plug next to Apple's "totally different plug" (with the iPhone 5, Apple is introducing an 8-pin Lightning port that is incompatible with previous iDevices).

Samsung also drew attention to the Galaxy III's 4.8-inch screen, compared with the 4-inch iPhone screen. The Android phone has a higher resolution display, the company boasted. At 4.7 ounces, however, Samsung's device is heavier than the 3.95-ounce iPhone 5.

Additionally, Samsung bragged about features on its handset like NFC, S-Beam, Direct Call, Tilt to Zoom, Palm Swipe Capture, Picture in Picture, and a removable battery.

"The next big thing is already here," the Samsung ad read, referencing the Galaxy S III's summer release months before Apple unveiled its new iPhone.

This isn't the first time Samsung has targeted an Apple smartphone. In November, a television ad for the Galaxy S II poked fun at Apple fanboys (and girls) who wait in line for hours whenever a new Apple device arrives. In the commercial, a line of Apple-types quickly begin questioning the iPhone 4S and iOS 5, pointing to its lack of 4G connectivity and a poor battery life.

In the TV spot, passers-by carrying the Samsung Galaxy S II provide a life-changing experience for the line-waiting hipsters. The ad ends with the same "the next big thing is here" tagline.

Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But Samsung Mobile President Dale Sohn told PCMag last year, "We're excited for the opportunity to educate as many consumers as possible about why the Samsung Galaxy S II is the preferred choice for smartphone owners."
